“I am Calaquín. I don't come to remind you of death. I’m here to celebrate life!”

I come from Mexico, where death is not always something to fear. Here, we remember our loved ones with colour, music, laughter and celebration. I am part of that joyful tradition — a little skeleton with a big personality and a mischievous spirit.

I was shaped by hand from papier-mâché, then carefully painted in bright colours to give me my own character. My long arms and legs are articulated, so I can move, pose and get into all sorts of mischief. No two of us are exactly alike — and that's the way I like it!

Take me home, and I'll bring a little piece of Mexico with me. I might stand proudly on a shelf, dance at your Día de los Muertos celebration or simply make you smile whenever you walk past.
